My Journey into Yoga: From Therapy to Calling
Driven by personal back pain, I discovered Hatha Yoga in the Sivananda tradition back in 1999 – marking the beginning of a lifelong journey.
Alongside my physiotherapy studies in Nijmegen, my passion grew so intensely that I completed my first certified Hatha Yoga teacher training (BYV/Yoga Alliance) in 2002, followed shortly by a Sampoorna Hatha Yoga training.
Since then, I have been teaching with great joy in Kleve and Nijmegen. My fascination with the healing power of yoga eventually led me straight to the source in India: in 2008, I immersed myself in Ashtanga Yoga in Mysore and was certified by legendary masters such as BNS Iyengar and Manju Jois.
A chance, inspiring encounter with BKS Iyengar in Rishikesh in 2010 reshaped my perspective once again – this clear, precise approach fascinated me so much that after several stays at the renowned Iyengar Institute in Pune, I completed a rigorous three-year training to become an internationally certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in Amsterdam in 2014.
Through regular workshops with senior teachers, my classes remain dynamic, profound, and continuously evolving.
History of yoga
The roots of yoga go back over 2,000 years. The first references to it can be found in ancient Indian scriptures, the Vedas, and later in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, which describe yoga as an eightfold path. For centuries, yoga was mainly passed on orally from teacher to student.
In the 20th century, yoga experienced a new boom when great teachers such as T. Krishnamacharya, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar brought yoga to the West and developed different styles that are still practised worldwide today.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga forms the basis of many modern yoga styles. It combines physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation to create a balanced practice.
The exercises are usually performed calmly and mindfully, with the aim of building strength and flexibility, deepening the breath and calming the mind. Hatha yoga is particularly suitable for beginners, but also for experienced practitioners who want to deepen their practice.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic, powerful form of yoga in which movement and breath are linked in a steady rhythm. The practice follows set sequences of poses that are performed in a flowing manner.
The focus is on continuous movement, a stable core, and deep breathing. The clear structure lends a meditative quality to the movement.

Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is characterised by precise alignment, mindful execution and the targeted use of aids such as blocks, straps and blankets. These enable the postures to be individually adapted and correctly experienced.
The positions are often held for longer in order to develop a deep understanding of the body. Iyengar Yoga is therapeutically oriented and suitable for all levels of experience.

Yoga is not a goal, but a path—a path to greater connection with oneself.
